Notes

  • Program notes:

From distance gently flows a song-like call
Accompanied by the mild light of dawn it awakes the sleeping earth
As the crepe of the shadow fades
Awakened creatures gladly sing for the new day

The piece is inspired by the Mongolian long song (長調) of its pastoral and expressive quality. The leading instrument imitates the vibrating notes called shuranhai (曲折音) in long song while the other instruments depict the spacious wilderness. The instrumentation is flexible, so it is like folk music that every one can be part of the music-making as well as living in harmony with the nature.
With instrumentation of violin, cello and piano, the piece won the Veridian Symphony Orchestra Second Annual Call for Scores Competition in 2014.
