Notes

  • Program notes:

Most of Paul Auster's poetry, including the four poems I selected, belongs to a period of youth spent in Paris, under difficult conditions. It contains, like an egg, everything that his
novels will accomplish. Also like eggs, the poems are round - constructed through repetition - and solid. The simplicity of language is almost that of the novels, immediate and powerful. Because I wanted the text to be understood, it was an important asset : meaning unfolds hand in hand with music, through different shades and consistencies of whiteness.
