Notes

  • Program notes:

Trobey Pastora is a piece written to a poem of the medieval French troubadour Marcabru, creating in years 1130-1150. The poem describes a meeting of a hero with a village girl. A given musical form is a pastiche of the medieval madrigal. An important role is played by dance rhythm and refrains, that give the piece lightness and livelyness, which are interwoven with spectacularly ornamented solo parts, describing the plot of the story. The work includes medieval archaisms and combines them with contemporary sets of chords and contemporary composing techniques. This combination shows the ideas of a medieval madrigal in a musical language familiar to today's audience. The piece received the first prize at the 57th Tadeusz Bird Young Composers' Competition in 2016.
