Rosa, Clotilde: Peaceful Meeting

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

Composed in 2016 in response to the commission by the DME Festival, the piece “Peaceful Meeting” for cello and double bass by Clotilde Rosa (1930-2017) was premiered at the DME (Dias de Música Electroacústica) Festival in Seia (Portugal). It is one of the composer's last works, in which she clearly emphasizes what she valued most in music – its dramatic and poetical content, resulting in an emotional impact that has always and unmistakingly been her own. “After the April 25th 1974 (the Portuguese Carnation Revolution), there were many misunderstandings and discussions between musicians – some were rightwing, the other ones were leftwing, and then there were the communists... and my role was to act as a conciliator. I used to say – «don't get angry», «don't bother», «it's not worth in». Until today many composers and performers treat me as their musical «Mum» (fragment taken from an interview to Clotilde Rosa realized by the MIC.PT in October 2017).
