Ruoikkohuhuilu (’Flute of the Seaside Reads’)

    Alto flute and electronics
(or: version for flute and electronics)

From the soft waves and winds amongst the reeds, a tune arises; it soars for a moment, then hides again.

Ruoikkohuhuilu was commissioned by the Crusell Music Festival, Finland, and premiered by Hanna Kinnunen, alto flute, and the composer, Ableton Live, at the Crusell festival in July, 2014. It has also been played, among others, by Stefani Starin at the American Festival of Microtonal Music, New York, 2015. The work is written in 13-limit just intonation.
