  • Program notes:

« Tao » is part of a group of vocal pieces based on the Tao Te King (Dao De Jing). This work was for me a way to get closer to a so fascinating and rich (in spirituality and freedom) philosophy as the Taoism, even if it is so different from mine. In « Tao », all phonetic and melodic materials are drawn from the first chapitre of the "Book of Tao and its Virtue" in its original version, in Mandarin Chinese. From this text I chose some fundamental ideas on which I worked at different levels in the development of the piece, such as the unspeakable of Tao and the attentive meditation, which leads to contemplate the "Miraculous Essence”. That is how, surprising myself with the sound of a language that I do not speak, I tried to represent some concepts of a philosophy in which I am not expert. But despite the distances, it seems to me increasingly closer.
