Leinonen, Minna: Scatterings

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

Minna Leinonen´s works get impulses from everyday phenomena. The descending, "pouring" woodwinds in Scatterings were inspired by a flock of geese as it slowly came to land. At one point the texture was inspired by the sound of a big box of toys being emptied onto the floor. In Scatterings three-dimensional effect is achieved by sprinkling the players round the hall: in addition to the orchestra on the platform, four smaller groups of soloists are placed round the listeners. Scatterings was commissioned by Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Hannu Lintu.
