Kadiša, Anastasija: Ben articolato

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

Ben articolato was composed in 2010 while studying at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music by Prof. Selga Mence. It´s style has been strongly inspired by the annual visit of the famous contemporary music festival “Donaueschinger Musiktage” in Germany and the British composer Jonathan Harvey. The idea of the piece is to use as much as possible new play techniques and to perform them in a “good articulated way” as the Italian title “Ben articolato” indicates. There are plenty of techniques such as muted tones, flageolets, glissando, col legno, vibrato, jeté, knocking on the instrument etc. The piece starts and ends with the note “h”, which serves as a central point of the composition.
