Notes

  • Program notes:

Shouts is fragile soft lines painted with a big dry brush. The material is treated as a
shattered whole. The musical idea is that there is only fragments left of something
that once were whole. What the ”whole” was from the beginning is never revealed
but the listener is to create this picture. The given ”fragments” are sometimes more
and sometimes less clear and in that sense they are to be directing the listener in a
certain way sometimes less and sometimes more.
The name ”Shouts” comes from the original main idea I had for the piece and that
was that there is someone reading the most beautiful poem. But everything is so
very far away the he or she who reads have to shout the poem. What the listener
now hears of the once beautiful poem is now something different.
Shouts was performed once by Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in 2016 in
    Sweden.
