Notes

  • Program notes:

The piece records a pianist's lived experience of the second pandemic quarantine. It describes the withdrawal from stage and live performances. Daily routines that have been imposed as a new reality are interchangeably presented. Each section represents a new entry in the pianist's lockdown diary: the study of polyphonic music (Lontano), a waltz performance (Quasi Waltz), moments from New Year’s Eve (Moderato ansioso) and the stress of remote working (Allegro Meccanicco) are distorted and rendered prismatically. The piece reflects a sense of fear and insecurity about music’s functions. The ambiguous ending coda brings the piece to a “quasi”-happy ending, open to interpretations.
