Biography

Mariliis Valkonen (b. 1981) has graduated from the Tallinn Georg Ots Music High
School in music theory (2001) and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in
composition as a student of Prof. Eino Tamberg (BA, 2005) and Helena Tulve (MA,
2012). She is particularly fond of choral music. "White Bird" for mixed choir has been
performed by many different choirs in many parts of the world. "Way to Home" was
performed at the X Youth Song Celebration (2007). Her music is characterized by
clear rhythms and powerful gestures and aiming to transmit good vibrations from the
surrounding life into music. She has been awarded the Composer Prize of the
Estonian Music Days Festival in 2005 and 2013.
