Ozkan, Mehmet 




Mehmet Özkan —being born in 1987 in Kardzhali, Bulgaria— started his music studies by taking piano lessons after the settlement of his family in Bursa. He got accepted to the secondary education at Uludağ University State Conservatory as a piano student. By the time he left the department he had studied with pianists such as Toros Can and Hüseyin Sermet frequently and had performed a series of recitals. Leaving the piano education unterminated as a senior he took the exams of Composition at MSFAU State Conservatory and got the admission to the composition class of Hasan Uçarsu; studied fugue and harmony with Özkan Manav, counterpoint with Ahmet Altınel, solmization with Mehmet Nemutlu. He also took composition lessons from Wim Hendrickx, Diederik Glorieux. For the Journey of the Sound festivals he was participant with Elegy for violin and piano, Öd tengri yaşar kişi kop ölgeli törümüş, String Quartet No.1 and orchestra piece The Eggplant’s Jester. His piece Çeşme in Summer Dance with The Bomber was performed by Ensemble Garage for a “New Music” festival organized by Bilgi University and for “Music Connects Contemporary” as a part of Kölner Karneval 2016. Lunatic’s Lay, his piece for orchestra and baritone, was advanced to the finals in 9. Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı competition and it was performed by İzmir State Symphony Orchestra. Mehmet Özkan still goes on with his education doing a master’s degree at MSFAU State Conservatory.
