The Finnish ISCM section, functioning within the Society of the Finnish Composers, has been active in organizing events and promoting contemporary music. The society participated in preparations of the Nordic Music Days both in Island 2006 and in Sweden 2007 and is currently taking the main responsibility of the 2008 Nordic Music Days, which will take place during 2.-5.10.2008 in Helsinki with the musical drama as main thematics.
The revenues from reproduction rights enable the society to support the three Finnish new music festivals: Musica Nova (returning to its original biennale schedule in 2009), Tampere Biennale, and the Time of Music Festival (Viitasaari).
The society informs its members regularly on actual issues like "Social security of artists" or "Organising a profile concert" and organizes further education; f.ex. in 2006, a workshop was organized for Finale and Sibelius users. The society also organises seminars; the topics of the 2007 seminars include "Collaboration between composers and lyric writers" and "Contemporary spiritual music".
Lately, the society has put a serious effort in ongoing changes in the legislation of authors' rights and participated actively in international co-operation and lobbying activities within its European partner organizations.
Currently the society has 151 members.
