  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications: 

    Vietnam Contemporary Music Centre (VCMC) has set up relations with many music organizations in Asia and Europe. Over the past several years, we have organized many professional exchange activities and participated in International Music Festivals and Conferences and exchanged musical products such as Scores, CDs, DVDs and so on.
    Since the establishment, the VCMC’s main duties are to support the activities of composing, researching, performing, to encourage the compositions for Opera, Symphony, Orchestra, Choir and to collect Vietnamese folk songs and traditional music, etc.
    However, from the beginning of 2020 until now, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, many music festivals in Vietnam and internationally have been cancelled.

  • Please describe your organization's research activities over the past year: 
    I. Highlights of the VCMC and music activities from 2020 to June 2021 - In January 9 to 11, 2020, VCMC cooperated with the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, Department of Culture and Sports of Quang Ninh province to organize the first “International Music Festival - Ha Long Green 2020” in Ha Long City, Join with nearly 200 artists, singers, actors, 6 typical bands of Vietnam, 3 bands from countries (Kazakhstan, Japan, China), and musicians, singers from Ukraine, Thailand, Laos... - In February 21, 2020, VCMC to attend the Asian and Contemporary Concert “Asian composers of Vietnam and Japan with Monochord” in Tokyo, Japan, as the Chairman Vietnam Composers' League (ACL) in Vietnam and author of the work “Memories” performed in concert, by Federation of Japanese Composers.Inc (JFC) in collaboration with the Group organization of art and culture of Taito city, organized by the Japan Contemporary Music Association. The content of the program includes a seminar on contemporary Asian music, introducing the Vietnam Monochord and introducing the Vietnamese Monochord and performing the works for Monochord and chamber orchestra. - The Minnesota Symphony Orchestra (United States) plans to tour in Vietnam, from June 26 to July 2, 2020, by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and US Embassy in Vietnam organized, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States. At the invitation of the Orchestra's leader, composer Do Hong Quan composed “Procession of the moon” for the Symphony Orchestra and Monochord. The work intends to perform at the Opening Ceremony - the first launch of the tour at the Hanoi Opera House, and other performances in Hue and Ho Chi Minh City, Monochord solo: Meritorious Artist Bui Le Chi. Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the program was canceled. - The ISCM Extraordinary General Assembly, It was held by the ISCM through Joining Zoom Meetings took place on June 27, 2020 (17-19 Hanoi time), due to the Covid-19 pandemic and all related restrictions, the tentative General Assembly of ISCM in New Zealand in April / 2020 had to be canceled. Professor, Doctor, composer Do Hong Quan participated this event as a Chairman of Vietnam Contemporary Music Center, Chairman of Vietnam Musicians Association, as a member of ISCM. - The work “Hope” composed by composer Do Hong Quan (poetry by Vu Mao) when the earthquake and tsunami disaster struck Japan in March 2011 (exactly 10 years ago), the incident has deeply for the whole of humanity. The song was performed in the Concert titled “Hope” on the evening of March 12, 2021 at the Hanoi Opera House, by conductor Honna Tetsuji (Japan) with singer Bui Thi Trang and Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra. - The work “Rapsody Vietnam” composed by composer Do Hong Quan, attended the Festival “Albert Semyonovich Leman and his disciples”, the work performed by the Model Orchestra of the National Guard of the Russian Federation, on the 6th June 2021, at the Grand Concert Hall, Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Moscow, Russia, on the 105th anniversary of the birth of the composer, professor, head of many years - Dean of the Composition Department of the Conservatory of Music Moscow named Tchaikovsky. - ISCM Virtual Collaborative Social Media Project Series online concert. The goal of the project is to promote the presence and coverage of contemporary music online through social networks, the VCMC has submitted 06 works by composer Do Hong Quan with the work “Down mountain” for Flute, Clarinet in B, Violin, Viola, Cello and Piano, which was performed at the Shanghai International Conservatory of Music, performed by the Moscow Chamber Orchestra; the work “Jungle Forest” for Trio for 3 Flauti; “Memories” for the Bau and chamber orchestra; composer Tran Luu Hoang with the work “Prayer” for the string quartet; composer Vu Dang Minh Anh with “Tik-Tak” for vocals soprano, flute, clarinet, violin, percussion and “Against time” for solo piano. III/ Future plan for 2022 - The 11th JFC Composers Award 2022 (29 – 31/3/2022) planned to be held in Muza Kawasaki, Japan on 29th and 30th March 2022, organized by The Japan Federation of Composers Inc. VCMC will Attend this event. - The International Youth Band Festival in Quang Ninh, will take place in August 2022, It is organized by the People's Committee, Department of Culture and Sports of Quang Ninh province, in coordination with the VCMC. - The 9th China - ASEAN Music Festival in 2022 in Nanning, China. The organizers of the Festival have invited the VCMC as guest to host, with an Chamber orchestra of 20 artists performing Vietnamese and Chinese works, and also holding a Workshop with the theme “Contemporary and Traditional Vietnamese Music”. - ISCM World Music Days 2022, taking place in Shanghai and Nanning on March in 2022, organized by the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM). VMA will Attend this event as an official member. - ISCM World New Music Days & ACL Festival 2022, taking place in Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand. VMA will Attend this event as an official member. - The 4th Asia-Europe International New Music Festival in Vietnam will take place in Hanoi and Hoi An City (Quang Nam province), in December 2022. VCMC will combine invited the Model Orchestra of the National Guard of the Russian Federation to visit and perform in Vietnam, the Orchestra consists of 81 musicians to perform in Vietnam in 5 Cities: Hanoi city, Hue, Da Nang city, Buon Ma Thuot, Ho Chi Minh city.
