Annual Report

  • Year:
  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications:

Stephen F. Austin State University's School of Music is a large and vibrant program of over 450 students and 60 faculty members. As such, during a typical year, we present hundreds of concerts, dozens of which include contemporary works by living composers from the USA and abroad. We have an active composition program which offers bachelors and masters degrees, and most of our major ensembles regularly program new music.

In 2021, due to the global pandemic, most our concerts in January through August were either cancelled or performed virtually. Beginning in September, we have restarted our live concerts.

SFA is a member of ISCM for the purposes of representing the entire state of Texas to the ISCM community. It would be impossible to enumerate the number of world-class events, commissions, publications, etc. that are taking place within this large and diverse state.

  • Please describe your organization's research activities over the past year:
As a major university, our School of Music faculty are involved in research at the highest levels. Our faculty regularly present lectures on all music-related topics at conferences focusing on music theory, musicology, and all aspects of performance.
