Annual Report

  • Year:
  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications:

The Canadian Section is committed to “Truth and Reconciliation”, a phrase used in Canada to acknowledge and address long-standing and systemized injustices to First Nations people. We intend to commission a First Nations composer once every two years as an official submission to the World New Music Days. First submission would be to Johannesburg-Soweto 2023. We have outlined a budget for this, and will be approaching production partners to ensure a performance and recording of the piece in Canada prior to submission. Our President, Rodney Sharman, is now a member of the International Assembly’s Representative Advisory Group at the invitation of Tomoko Fukui.

  • Please describe your organization's research activities over the past year:
The Canadian Section prepared a 3-4 year-plan including budget for a biennial commission of a First Nations composer.
