Annual Report

  • Year:
  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications:

2019 was another year of transition for the AIC with another new coordinator and a reduced focus on concerts, continuing a process of repositioning the AIC as purely an advocacy body. Projects which went ahead included one concert (with the Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble), international projects and the New Music Journal. The organisation began a detailed look at its internal workings which is likely to take several years to complete and involves assessing how it can be useful in a changing musical landscape (and given its very small budget)

Membership is now at 105, with more applications to be considered. The AIC New Music Journal published 1 Article and 3 Shorts. We continue to increase our presence and impact on social media: Facebook likes have grown from 971 to 991; non-member mailing list subscriptions have risen slightly; and our Twitter followers number 657 (up from 580). We secured funding from a number of sources: €2,500 from IMRO towards running costs, €1,500 from Culture Ireland towards our international programming. We continued to work with our advocacy working group to be the voice of contemporary composers in Ireland.

The AIC committee for 2019, as voted for at the AGM January 2019, was as follows:
    Michael Holohan – Acting Chairman
    Sebastian Adams - Coordinator
    Shell Dooley – Treasurer
    Jenn Kirby – Web Manager
    Peter Moran – Journal Coordinator
    Martin O’Leary
    John McLachlan
    Patrick Brennan
