  • Please describe your organization’s activities over the past year, including concerts, commissions, collaborations, publications: 

    We successfully held the 2018 Beijing Modern Music Festival & ISCM World New Music Days from May 19 to 26, 2018, lasting for 8 days.

    In the festival, we present 5 symphonic works concerts, 14 chamber music concerts, 1 chamber opera, 1 Choral Concert, 1 lecture, 1 master class, and 5 ISCM General Assemblies. The involved performing groups are China National Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, Tianjin Symphony Orchestra, Suzhou Chinese Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Tempus Loquendi, German Youth Chamber Choir, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, NZTrio, Alarm Will Sound, Trio Clavino, Mivos Quartet, Japanese Saxphone Quartet, etc. Many conductors and excellent musicians in China and abroad also participated in the festival. The concert halls concerned are China National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing Concert Hall, Forbidden City Concert Hall, Opera and Concert Hall, and Recital Hall at the Central Conservatory of Music. We received 450 pieces from 54 ISCM members of different countries and areas as well as individuals in total, and had about 100 pieces performed in the festival. After the festival, we published a DVD box including three concerts: Opening Concert, Closing Concert and the chamber Opera.

    The Beijing Modern Music Festival is a national-level music festival supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, and sponsored by the Central Conservatory of Music. BMMF was founded in 2002 by Artistic Director Professor Xiaogang Ye and Music Director Yongyan Hu with the mission of promoting the adventurous spirit of modern music. It is committed to disseminating modern music, promoting international artistic and cultural communication, and to building a platform for young musicians. While maintaining a high academic standard, it seeks to integrate art and society, ensuring that new music can have a widespread impact.

  • Please describe your organization's research activities over the past year: 
    The BMMF organized a group of composers and musicologists to visit Shaoguan municipality of Guangdong province in January of 2020, and Qufu municipality of Shangdong province in July of 2018 for the Shao Music project. Shao Music is a traditional Chinese music existed in 5000 years ago concerned with emperor Shun, and also Confucius.
