The HDS has several artistic, among the others, activities that correspond with the part of HDS’s membership focused on the contemporary classical, experimental and alternative music. In this list of important events and projects in 2017, several of them are of the most importance and should be underlined. Festival in Opatija is a traditional gathering of members of the Croatian ISCM section. During the 4 days festival in 2017 more than 30 pieces were performed, with 5 first performances. Very important part of the festival are organized discussions (on several subjects that are near to the musical sector or musical profession, such as musical criticism) or musical workshops (for children or students of music). Part of the ISCM Croatian section initiatives are special hommage concerts to important Croatian composers (in 2017 Olja Jelaska, Davorin Kempf, Ivo Josipović). The official ensemble of the ISCM Croatian Section is Cantus Ensemble. In 2017 Ensemble performed 18 pieces by Croatian composers in 17 different concerts. The Ensemble and it’s continuous contact and secure, professional and open-minded communication and interaction with the Croatian composers are enormous plus to the cultural scene in Croatia. The ISCM Croatian Section also published 17 music sheet editions as well as 9 CDs of contemporary music. In 2017 the Music Biennale Zagreb had its 29th edition at witch occasion the festival featured 31 first performances of local and international composers. the MBZ festival takes place biannually and usually programs around 40 concerts and performances in 8 days.
