Call for Scores, Works and Projects

The ISCM World Music Days 2005 will be held within the 23rd Music Biennale Zagreb, an international festival of contemporary music, in the period from Friday, 15 to Sunday, 24 April 2005.

The festival programme aims to present the widest range of musical activities from all over the world. The proposals which do not draw on the central theme will also be considered.

  • The central theme of the festival is ‘Music of the Cities’. Composers are invited to submit their scores, multimedia and other projects related to the cities which enhanced our civilization through their contribution to music, culture and history. Special attention will be given to compositions and projects related to the following Croatian cities: Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Pula, Zadar, Dubrovnik, Varaždin, Osijek and Vukovar.   • The festival programme will be agreed by the festival Artistic Council chaired by the Artistic Director Berislav Sipus following the selection made by the international jury consisting of renowned composers from all over the world.
  • The names of the international jury members will be given in due time.
  • Each ISCM Section may submit up to 6 scores and projects.
  • The applications are also invited to be sent by composers, orchestras, soloists and chamber ensembles, producers, publishers, and various artistic organizations. No one can submit two compositions or two projects by the same composer.
  • A registration fee for each score, work and/or project is ! 50- The ISCM Sections do not have to pay the registration fee for the submitted proposals (up to 6 compositions or projects).
  • Each application should include the following: 3 copies of a score; project description, including the technical requirements; notes on the work with the year of origin and a recording (audio, video), if possible; composer’s biography with a photograph, certificate of citizenship as well as the address, phone number and e-mail address; a receipt for the registration fee.
  • The applicant may propose the performer.
  • Proposals which offer a co-production or co-financing of a project or provide further performances of a composition or project will be specially considered.
  • Applications are invited for all kinds of music and multimedia works, including operas, ballets, compositions for symphony orchestra (with or without a soloist), for various chamber ensembles (with or without a soloist), choirs, compositions for solo instruments, works for specific folk instruments, as well as electronic and computer works. Except for musical and stage works, the recommended duration of compositions is maximum 15 minutes for large ensembles and 10 minutes for chamber ensembles and solo instruments.
  • Special attention will be given to the appropriate geographical and stylistic balance of the programme and representation of young composers (maximum age 30).
  • The organizer reserves the right to directly discuss the programme with the ISCM Sections, producers, publishers, cultural centres and others in order to define the programme and agree on co-productions or to finance the projects in an adequate manner. Registration fee is not required in such cases.
  • The organizer is not responsible for the production of performing materials, which should be available on sale or on hire from the composer or from his/her representative.
  • The materials sent with the proposal shall not be returned and they will be stored in the library of the Croatian Composers’ Society. The organizer does not accept any liability for loss or damage of the materials sent.
  • The authors of selected works will be guests of the festival. The expenses of their stay in Zagreb will be covered by the organizer.
